
We stay at the Craiglynne Hotel, which stands in gardens, just a short walk from the centre of pretty Grantown-on-Spey. We explore Royal Deeside visiting Braemar, a quaint settlement surrounded by the Grampian Mountains, and call at picturesque Ballater, which lies in the shadow of Balmoral Castle and where you’ll find “By Royal Appointment” signs and quirky shops. We also visit the ancient fishing port of Nairn, home to a sandy beach and promenade, then continue to Inverness where you’ll find a grand castle, historic old town and a fine cathedral. Other treats take in Newtonmore, home to the an interesting heritage trail, and we spend time in the popular tourist town of Aviemore.
