Gorgeous Gairloch boasts sandy beaches and mountain scenery. We visit the town’s museum, which is housed in a converted nuclear bunker and showcases local history and heritage. We head to Inverewe Gardens, an oasis of exotic plants perched on a peninsula and overlooked by splendid Inverewe House. We visit Eilean Donan Castle, a fairytale fortress which has a visitor centre and within the fortified walls you’ll find period furniture, Jacobean artefacts, art and ancient weapons. We also enjoy a scenic drive over the Skye Bridge for a refreshment at the Kings Arms Hotel while taking in the views of the Kyle of Lochalsh. A morning visit to Ullapool completes our holiday.
