Guided Tour of Cardiff Castle & The Hayes
Telling a story dating back over 2000 years, Cardiff Castle started life as a Roman Fort, became a Norman fortress then a Victorian gothic extravaganza complete with gargoyles and lavishly furnished rooms. Later, this imposing bastion housed wartime shelters. After time to explore its past, we proceed to The Hayes, Cardiff’s main shopping area.
The Welsh Coal Mining Experience & Pontypridd
We travel to Rhondda Heritage Park for a unique experience at the popular Welsh Coal Mining attraction where we embark on the Black Gold Underground Experience, following in the footsteps of the miners who worked at the Lewis Merthyr Colliery. This award winning tour in the company of a former miner takes visitors back in time and
features interactive displays, a traditional shop, an Anderson shelter and the Old Forge where the blacksmith worked on the colliery horses, as well as a virtual ride that takes you back to the surface. Explore the courtyard, Chocolate House, café and gift shop. Afterwards, we call at the picturesque and typically Welsh town of Pontypridd, birthplace of Sir Tom Jones.
Porthcawl
We head along the coast for a morning visit to the seaside town of Porthcawl where you might like to stroll along the esplanade, relax on the sandy beach or step back in time at the resort’s museum with its displays of over eight thousand objects. Afternoon free in Cardiff.
