5 Day Coach Holiday

This Highland getaway is based in Grantown-on-Spey, a thriving settlement in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park. The town dates from the mid-eighteenth century and boasts a range of independent shops as well as a museum and visitor centre with exhibitions showcasing local history. We spend a day at majestic Ballindalloch Castle & Gardens, known as the ‘Pearl of the North’, and one of Scotland’s few private fortresses that has been lived in continuously by the family that founded it - namely the Macpherson-Grants. This Scottish Baronial stronghold stands magnificently in the heart of Speyside, and blends history and grandeur with all the grace of a much-loved family home. We enjoy a tour and tasting experience at Glenfiddich Distillery, a brand that has remained in the same family for over 130 years and where we can breathe in the scent of aging oak and discover the time-honoured methods used in the making of their award winning whisky. We also call at elegant Elgin, home to medieval cathedral ruins known as the ‘Lantern of the North’. Finally, we spend a day in the handsome Highland capital of Inverness.

Your Excursions

Ballindalloch Castle & Gardens
Inside this glorious fortress you’ll find five hundred years of history in its splendid rooms such as the vaulted hall, refined library, and the grand dining room with its magnificent fireplace - all adorned with lavish furnishings, fine art and family heirlooms. There is also an enchanting nursery with antique toys. Outside, there are beautifully manicured formal gardens and riverside walks to enjoy. The Castle Gift Shop has a fine selection of Scottish crafts and goods, while the Courtyard Café offers refreshments.

Glenfiddich Distillery & Elgin
We begin our day with a guided tour of Glenfiddich Distillery, birthplace of the world’s most awarded single malt whisky. Here we learn about the Glenfiddich pioneering family legacy and the whisky making process, then enjoy a lip-smacking tasting experience of four of their signature whiskies. From here, we move on to the scenic town of Elgin, home to historic cathedral ruins that are one of Scotland’s most stunning medieval buildings. Perhaps visit Elgin Museum, where you can view objects from all over the world.

Inverness

Inverness today for time at leisure. Attractions include a historic Old Town, Inverness Museum and Art Gallery, a riverside castle, gothic cathedral, and botanic gardens. Don’t miss scenic Ness Islands, a collection of natural isles connected from the riverbank by elegant Victorian footbridges amidst mature trees and carved benches.
