Your Excursions

Day One. We head to Strathpeffer and check into the Ben Wyvis Hotel for two nights, where we can relax before dinner. This Victorian spa town is home to the Highland Museum of Childhood, set in an old railway station and housing artefacts depicting life growing up in the Highlands.
Day Two. Inverness today for time at leisure. Attractions include a historic Old Town, Inverness Museum and Art Gallery, a riverside castle, gothic cathedral, and botanic gardens. Don’t miss scenic Ness Islands, a collection of natural isles connected from the riverbank by elegant Victorian footbridges amidst mature trees and carved benches.
Day Three. We check out then head north to join the NC500, as we make our way to John O’Groats, the northernmost point of this famous route. Look forward to stunning photo opportunities as we pass sweeps of sandy beaches, soaring sea stacks, and dramatic headlands jutting into churning seas. We pop into the former Viking settlement of Wick, before reaching John O’Groats, where you’ll have free time to perhaps visit the Heritage Centre or snap a photo at the landmark signpost. Then it’s onwards to the Station Hotel in Thurso, the most northerly town in mainland Scotland, where we check in for our overnight stay.
Day Four. We check out then continue west along the NC500, taking in mist cloaked mountains, hidden hill lochs and white beaches edged by turquoise waters along with the idyllic remote coastal settlements of Tongue and Durness. Later, we arrive at the beachfront Gairloch Hotel, for two nights.
Day Five. A holiday highlight as we’re off to Inverewe Gardens this morning, a lush oasis where the warming effects of the Gulf Stream meet the Highlands on the shores of Loch Ewe. Dating from the nineteenth century, the gardens have been created over time and feature exotic plants along with Scotland’s top five in the wildlife charts – red squirrels, red deer, otters, seals and golden eagles. Perhaps head to the pier and take a boat trip around the peninsula. Inverewe House stands at its heart and has an intriguing history. We return to Gairloch where you might like to visit the town’s museum which is housed in a former nuclear bunker, and reveals local history, culture and heritage. Or simply relax on the sandy beach.
Day Six. Time to check out and make our way home after our Highland adventure.
