7 Day Coach Holiday

The Rhine Valley is a land of myths and legends where fairytale fortresses crown the hillsides and vineyards hug the slopes above riverside towns. This enchanting holiday is based in fun-filled Rudesheim, a wine-making town with half-timbered buildings that is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Rhine Gorge. You’ll feel like you’ve stepped back through the ages as you wander its medieval Drosselgasse, a narrow, cobbled lane lined with lively taverns and gift shops. This pretty tourist magnet is also home to tenth century Bromserburg Castle which houses the Rheingau Wine Museum exhibiting wine paraphernalia from ancient times to the present day. Perhaps catch the resort’s cable car where you’ll hover above vines as your car glides up to the Niederwald Monument, which commemorates the unification of Germany. Or hop aboard the Winzerexpress land train for a sightseeing circuit. Out and about, we explore the stunning Rhine Valley from a river cruiser, calling at delightful St Goar, endearing Bacharach with its old-world buildings, and traditional Cochem. We also visit historic Koblenz, where the Rhine meets the meandering Moselle.

Your Holiday Itinerary

Day One. We travel to our overnight ferry to the continent, with dinner, entertainment and breakfast on board.

Day Two. We stop in Koblenz, home to cultural monuments and the Deutsches Eck promontory that overlooks the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle. Later, we continue to the Hotel Lindenwirt in magical Rudesheim, and check in for our four night stay.

Day Three. A day in Rudesheim, where we learn about local wine and enjoy some tasting. The rest of the day is free time to explore this riverside village. Perhaps wander the quirky alleyways or explore the historical treasures that reach back through the ages such as the gothic Eagle Tower and the tenth century Bromserburg Castle. Or visit Siegfried’s Mechanical Music Cabinet where you’ll be amazed at the imaginative musical instruments.

Day Four. We sail to St Goar, famed for the treacherous Lorelei Rock that once lured sailors to a watery grave. It is also known for its thirteenth century Rheinfels Castle, the largest and most imposing castle on the Rhine. From here we hop aboard a replica paddle steamer to Bacharach where you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into the pages of a fairytale with its crooked, half-timbered buildings, cobbled lanes, town walls and market square. After time to explore, we catch a river cruiser back to Rudesheim.

Day Five. Today we head to Cochem, a traditional German village on the banks of the Moselle where legend, history and folklore are woven into every alleyway and snaking streets of wine taverns nestle beneath storybook Reichsburg Castle. Here we board a river boat for a short scenic cruise.

Day Six. We say auf wiedersehen and head north to our overnight ferry back to the UK, with dinner, entertainment and breakfast on board.

Day Seven. We continue home after our delightful Rhineland adventure.
