This delightfully varied holiday is based in Waterford, a thousand-year-old city with a medieval flavour and we include a free day to wander its atmospheric streets and lively waterfront. Perhaps visit the Waterford Medieval Museum where you can go underneath the building to walk in the shadow of the past through centuries-old vaults where you’ll find notable treasures including cloth of gold vestments. Maybe stroll through history in the city’s Viking Triangle with its quirky nooks and crannies, filled with ancient landmarks. Or visit Waterford Crystal where two centuries of crystal creating unfold. We visit Wexford, a city founded by the Vikings in 800 AD, and known for its buildings dating from the Middle Ages including Westgate Tower and Selskar Abbey. We also head to New Ross where we experience Dunbrody Famine Ship, an authentic reproduction of an 1840s vessel with mighty masts and billowing sails, and where costumed characters tell the story of the Irish famine emigrants. Another gem is ancient Kilkenny, home to a magnificent castle. Our final treat is a visit to Mount Congreve Gardens, one of ‘The Great Gardens of the World’.
