After you’ve browsed the exhibits, we head to the walled town of Athlone. This riverside settlement was plundered by the Vikings and almost every building has a story to tell, from the medieval castle to the 17th century barracks and Victorian workhouse.
Guided Tour & Taste at The Shed Distillery & Carrick-on-Shannon
We call at The Shed Distillery of PJ Rigney, home of Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin and Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey for a guided tour and taste of their remarkable creations. We continue to Carrick-on-Shannon for free time to perhaps visit the tiny chapel or St George’s Heritage & Visitor Centre.
