Guided Tour of Alnwick Castle Grounds, Alnwick Castle & Alnwick Gardens
We join our guide for a tour of the castle’s historic grounds, taking in its tower, learning about its 900 year history and hearing intriguing tales about the families who have lived there throughout the centuries. We also include entry into the fortress, which is the second largest inhabited castle in the UK and has been used as a military outpost, haven for evacuees, and a filmset for dramas such as Downton Abbey, as well as a family home. Afterwards, we visit Alnwick Gardens created by the Duchess of Northumberland.
Morpeth & Newcastle-upon-Tyne
A morning visit to Morpeth, where you’ll find an ancient castle and the thirteenth century Grade I listed Chantry that houses a large collection of bagpipes. There are also independent shops and traditional tearooms. Afternoon is free in Newcastle – the castle, Life Science Museum and the Quayside area are all popular attractions.
Lindisfarne & Seahouses
Lindisfarne is a World Heritage Site and an isle that is said to be the birthplace of Christianity. This tidal island boasts stunning scenery and is where you can follow in the footsteps of the monks who built their priory here 1400 years ago. We move on to the quaint and historic coastal village of Seahouses, home to a bustling harbour and great fish and chips restaurants.
