5 Day Select Holiday

This enchanting holiday is based in Stratford-upon-Avon, a medieval market town, most famously known as the birthplace of William Shakespeare. This well-preserved tourist magnet retains many of the buildings that would have been familiar to the Bard such as the house where he was born and grew up, romantic Anne Hathaway’s Cottage and Hall’s Croft, home to Shakespeare’s daughter. Look forward to discovering the stunning style of the half-timbered Tudor architecture of Stratford-upon-Avon from the vantage point of a boat on our River Avon cruise. We also take in the picture postcard Cotswolds, a rural area of south central England covering parts of six counties, most notably Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire. Its rolling hills conceal thatched roofed villages, honey hued stone cottages, striking churches and stately homes built of distinctive yellow limestone and all combining to make the Cotswolds an area of outstanding beauty. We spend a day in graceful Oxford, Britain’s oldest university city and famous as the ‘City of Dreaming Spires’ thanks to the architecture of the prestigious university buildings. It is also renowned for its history, heritage and culture that blend seamlessly with a modern buzz.

Your Excursions

Northern Cotswolds
We visit Burford, a village that slopes down to the River Windrush with its three arched medieval bridge. It has changed little over the centuries and is one of England’s most photogenic villages with an unbroken procession of ancient dwellings, splendid churches and unusual shops. Explore the enticing alleyways and perhaps stop at the sixteenth century, black and white timber fronted Tolsey Museum. We move on to the
old town of Stow-on-the-Wold where you’ll find an impressive market square, England’s oldest inn and fifteenth century penal stocks alongside a charming promenade of shops.
Guided Tour of Oxford
Our guided tour of Britain’s oldest university city will get your sightseeing off to a great start. Afterwards, perhaps visit one of the university colleges, Oxford Castle, the landmark Bridge of Sighs or the museum that tells the story of Oxford and its people. Take a cruise on the tranquil Thames, trace the steps of Inspector Morse and Harry Potter or explore the city’s Botanic Gardens. Maybe pop into the Old Parsonage Hotel where Oscar Wilde is reported to have stayed.
Stratford-upon-Avon Cruise
We experience the beating heart of beautiful Stratford-upon-Avon on a relaxing cruise, sailing you through the historic canal lock and into the sparkling River Avon. Enjoy lighthearted commentary narrated by Shakespearian actors telling you all about the town’s heritage along with some gossip about the Bard. Afterwards, you’ll have free time to continue exploring at your own pace.
