Day One. We travel to our overnight ferry to the continent, with dinner, entertainment and breakfast on board.
Day Two. We stop in Koblenz with its cultural monuments and atmospheric squares. Later, we continue to the Lamm Hotel in magical Assmannshausen for our four night stay, arriving in time to unwind before dinner.
Day Three. This morning we set off on a river cruise from just outside the hotel heading to the popular resort of Rudesheim, where we learn about local wine and enjoy some tasting. Afterwards, free time to explore this riverside village. Perhaps wander the quirky alleyways or explore the historical treasures that reach back through the ages such as the gothic Eagle Tower and the tenth century Bromserburg Castle. If you’re feeling brave, visit the Middle Ages Torture Museum and learn about witches, the Inquisition and medieval punishments! We rejoin our coach and return to the hotel late afternoon.
Day Four. We sail to St Goar, famed for the treacherous Lorelei Rock that once lured sailors to a watery grave. It is also known for its thirteenth century Rheinfels Castle, the largest and most imposing castle on the Rhine. From here we hop aboard a replica paddle steamer to Bacharach where you’ll feel like you’ve stepped into the pages of a fairytale with its crooked, half-timbered buildings, cobbled lanes, town walls and market square. After time to explore we catch a river cruiser back to Assmannshausen.
Day Five. Today we proceed to Cochem, a traditional German village on the banks of the Moselle River where legend, history and folklore are woven into every alleyway and snaking streets of wine taverns nestle beneath storybook Reichsburg Castle. Here we board our river boat for a short scenic cruise.
Day Six. We say auf wiedersehen and head north to our overnight ferry back to the UK, with dinner, entertainment and breakfast on board.
Day Seven. We head home after our delightful Rhine and Moselle adventure.
