A fascinating day out is in store when we head to Southwell and walk up the “Pauper’s path” to visit the National Trust’s atmospheric Victorian Workhouse. Here you can experience what life was like for the Victorian poor as you explore the austere cellars, work yards, vegetable garden and exhibitions. Afterwards, we visit the pretty market town of Newark. On another day we enjoy a trip on the Great Central Railway, a heritage line recreating train journeys from bygone days, and where we travel from Loughbrough to Leicester. Here we rejoin our coach then head to Melton Mowbray for a cheese making and tasting demo. On our last day out we embark on a scenic cruise on the River Trent followed by free time in Nottingham. We stay at the centrally located four star Mercure Nottingham Hotel and our holiday is bookended by stops in Ashbourne and Lincoln.
