Overview

The Isle of Man charms visitors with its colourful heritage, miles of beaches, natural beauty and sleepy villages where time has stood still. Its capital, Douglas, enjoys an enviable position on a crescent shaped bay and is home to grand architecture and a long esplanade. Perhaps visit the town’s Great Union Camera Obscura, a Victorian curiosity and a quirky way to take in the stunning views or uncover island history at the Manx Museum, located behind Villa Marina Gardens. We head to Castletown where we include entry to medieval Castle Rushen, visit Cregneash, a living museum portraying life as a crofter and call at the coastal village of Port St Mary.

Your Holiday Itinerary

Day one. From local joining points we journey to our overnight hotel in the north-west of England for dinner bed and breakfast.

Day Two. We board our ferry for our crossing to the Isle of Man and check into the Chesterhouse Hotel.

Day Three. We enjoy excursions to Castletown & Castle Rushen. Once the island’s capital, ancient Castletown is clustered around splendidly preserved Castle Rushen. Perhaps learn the story of the town’s maritime past at the Nautical Museum which houses an eighteenth century yacht. We explore perfectly preserved Port Rushen, once the home of Lords and Kings of Mann and later became a mint, then a prison. Inside this impressive fortress you’ll see furnished chambers and enjoy panoramic vistas from the ramparts.

Day Four. A day at leisure to relax or explore Douglas and the surrounding area.

Day Five. Cregneash Folk Museum & Port St Mary are our treats today. Experience bygone days at the picturesque village of Cregneash, the last stronghold where the Manx language was spoken and where
life in a nineteenth century crofting settlement is depicted. Step inside the cottages to unearth the lives of the crofters through craft demonstrations. From here, we head to the endearing village of Port St Mary with its Victorian promenade and quaint fishing harbour.

Day Six. After breakfast, we head to our ferry back to the mainland then continue home with rest stops along the way.
